Community & Family Care Department
The Community & Family Care Programs at KidsCare purpose is to strengthen family and community structures to create a safe and supportive environment for children. Through a holistic and community-driven approach, we empower families, caregivers, and local leaders with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to promote child well-being and sustainable family care. These programs include child protection, community based homecare and beekeeping, and intervention and emergency support kit.
1. Child Protection Programme
Our Commitment
KidsCare Kenya is dedicated to safeguarding children’s rights by fostering a safe, supportive, and empowering environment. Through a community-driven approach, we work to strengthen child protection systems in Lungalunga Sub-County, ensuring that every child grows up free from abuse and exploitation.
Our Impact
We have established 24 active Community Child Protection Committees (CCPCs) across 24 villages, each comprising at least 10 committed volunteers. These committees play a vital role in identifying, preventing, and responding to child protection concerns while promoting children’s well-being.
Our Goal
To create a secure and nurturing environment where children’s rights are upheld, enabling them to reach their full potential without the risk of harm.
Key Focus Areas
I. Preventing child abuse & exploitation – Strengthening community-led initiatives to protect children.
II. Empowering families & caregivers – Providing knowledge and resources to support safe and nurturing homes.
III. Strengthening child protection systems – Enhancing coordination between communities, service providers, and stakeholders.
IV. Raising awareness & advocacy – Promoting child rights and protection through education and engagement.
Our Approach
I. Training & capacity building – Equipping CCPC members with skills to safeguard children effectively.
II. Community awareness & engagement – Educating schools and local communities on child protection issues
III. Prevention & response to child abuse – Identifying, referring, and supporting victims of abuse through provision of transport to attend court.
IV. Collaboration & Advocacy – Enhancing reporting and referral systems through partnerships.
2. Community-Based Homecare & Beekeeping Program (CBHB)
The program goal
The Community-Based Homecare & Beekeeping Program (CBHB) aim is to uplift and support 240 vulnerable households through economic empowerment, sustainable farming, and environmental conservation.
Impact
The program directly benefits approximately 1,200 orphans and vulnerable children across 16 rural communities in Lungalunga, fostering self-reliance and resilience among families while ensuring children grow up in a stable and supportive environment.
Key Focus Areas
I. Household Empowerment & Social Support
• Strengthening 240 households through economic empowerment training and income-generating activities.
• Providing decent housing, cash transfers, and access to essential services like education and healthcare.
II. Beekeeping & Sustainable Livelihoods
• Supporting 16 registered beekeeping farmer groups with training, modern equipment, and sustainable honey production techniques.
• Promoting tree planting and environmental preservation as part of sustainable farming practices.
III. Community-Led Environmental Conservation
• Restoring the environment through tree nursery development, reforestation, and conservation initiatives.
• Integrating environmental sustainability into livelihoods to protect natural resources for future generations.
3. Short-Term Interventions & Emergency Support
As part of our Community & Family Care Programs, KidsCare Kenya implements Short-Term Interventions & Emergency Support Kit Projects to assist families facing urgent crises in Lunga Lunga Sub-County.
With rising economic instability, and the effects of climate change, many households—especially those reliant on small-scale farming—struggle to meet their basic needs. Through direct aid initiatives, KidsCare provides essential support, such as seed packages and food aid, to help vulnerable families sustain their livelihoods.
Our Emergency Support Kit offers immediate relief, including food, medical assistance, and essential supplies for households affected by crises.
By responding swiftly to urgent needs, KidsCare Kenya ensures that families and children receive the critical support they need to survive, recover, and rebuild their lives.
